Une \u00e9tude de l\u2019universit\u00e9 Johns Hopkins aux USA a r\u00e9v\u00e9l\u00e9 que certaines personnes atteintes de Lyme ne produisent pratiquement pas de r\u00e9ponse immunitaire \u00e0 Borrelia burgdorferi. Cela pourrait \u00eatre d\u00fb \u00e0 une perturbation de l&rsquo;activation des cellules dendritiques (CD), des cellules immunitaires essentielles qui d\u00e9tectent les agents pathog\u00e8nes et d\u00e9clenchent la r\u00e9ponse immunitaire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pour cela, ces cellules envoient trois types de signaux aux cellules T charg\u00e9es de combattre les pathog\u00e8nes : un pour \u00ab&nbsp;<em>reconna\u00eetre l&rsquo;infection&nbsp;\u00bb<\/em>, un autre pour \u00ab&nbsp;<em>activer la r\u00e9ponse&nbsp;\u00bb<\/em>, et un troisi\u00e8me pour \u00ab&nbsp;<em>lib\u00e9rer des substances qui orientent la r\u00e9action immunitaire&nbsp;\u00bb<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>L&rsquo;\u00e9tude a montr\u00e9 que les CD expos\u00e9es \u00e0 Borrelia burgdorferi g\u00e9n\u00e8rent correctement le premier signal, mais pas les deux autres, comme cela est aussi observ\u00e9 pour l\u2019environnement des tumeurs, o\u00f9 la r\u00e9ponse immunitaire est souvent d\u00e9ficiente, inefficace. Cela explique en partie pourquoi Borrelia parvient \u00e0 \u00e9chapper au syst\u00e8me immunitaire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cette perturbation des signaux CD affecte l&rsquo;efficacit\u00e9 des tests diagnostiques bas\u00e9s sur les anticorps, puisqu\u2019il n\u2019y a pas ou pratiquement pas d\u2019anticorps dans le sang de ces personnes. Ce qui entra\u00eene des erreurs et des retards de diagnostic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>La premi\u00e8re conclusion de l\u2019\u00e9quipe est qu\u2019il faut sortir des tests bas\u00e9s sur les anticorps (comme ELISA, par exemple), et qu\u2019il faut rapidement d\u00e9velopper des tests directs qui reposent sur l\u2019identification de l&rsquo;ADN ou des prot\u00e9ines de Borrelia, pour \u00e9viter des retards et des erreurs dans la prise en charge, avec toutes les cons\u00e9quences qu\u2019on conna\u00eet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Les chercheurs pensent que ces d\u00e9couvertes pourraient \u00e9galement ouvrir la voie \u00e0 de nouvelles th\u00e9rapies bas\u00e9es sur des modulateurs immunitaires, inspir\u00e9es des traitements contre le cancer, afin de renforcer la r\u00e9ponse immunitaire contre
